Pasadena, Texas

Pasadena is the second-largest city in Harris County, Texas and is within the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. As of the 2010 US Census the city's population was 149,043.

Incorporated in 1928, the area was founded in 1893 by John H. Burnett of Galveston, who named it after Pasadena, California because of the perceived lush vegetation.

Pasadena's economy became strongly tied to petroleum and other heavy industry. NASA's Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center was established near Pasadena in 1963 within the residential community of Clear Lake City, which is partially under Pasadena's jurisdiction.

The 1980 motion picture "Urban Cowboy" was filmed in and around the Pasadena area, and featured the city's famous honky-tonk bar Gilley's, which was co-owned by country music star Mickey Gilley.

Despite the fact that most people call this town Stink-a-dena, in reference to the many chemical plants to the city's north, it's actually a nice town even though it does have a reputation as a "ghetto" community.
